The Christmas Tag

I’ve been really trying to get myself in the Christmas mood since coming back from St Lucia yesterday. It’s funny going on holiday to a hot and sunny country in December, and not seeing anything Christmas related. Now that we are back home, I’ve already put up the Christmas tree and started writing some cards. I was really excited to be nominated for The Christmas Tag by Wendy over at Naptime Natter, and this has really got me in the Christmas mood.

What’s your favourite Christmas Movie?

It has to be National Lampoon’s Christmas vacation. If you’ve never seen it go and watch it. It’s so funny. I particularly like the moment when they slide down the hill on the bin lids in the snow.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a white Christmas at all. Certainly not a blanket snow covered garden to build snowmen. I made have seen the odd flake of snow on Christmas Day, but nothing memorable.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

I usually spend Christmas at my parent’s house. This year we are going to my husband’s parent’s, and it will only ever be my 2nd away from home. I feel a bit sad about that, however now that we have a daughter we need to alternate between the families.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

It has to be The Pogues – Fairytale of New York, and Chris Rea – Driving Home for Christmas. I know that it’s cheating giving two, but both make me feel really Christmassy.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

No never! It would feel wrong opening Christmas presents on Christmas Eve. As a child we used to open our stockings the minute it turned from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day as we were too excited to sleep.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

I’m probably going to get this wrong, I can only remember a few, and I’m not going to use Google to help me. Dasher, Dozy, Rudolph, Basher……..I’ve no idea! Sorry

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

I’ve started doing Elf on the Shelf to get a tradition going for our family. Apart from that we don’t really have any traditions. We do wait until after breakfast to open our presents. Plus it’s a good excuse to drink Champagne for breakfast, and eat and drink all day long.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Our Christmas tree is fake. Every year I say that I’m going to get new decorations for it, but never do.

What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?

It has to be Marks and Spencers Brie and Cranberry parcels, I love them. As well as eating lots of cheese, and drinking Port and Sherry.

Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?

When I was younger I used to love receiving presents. Now that I’m older I still love receiving presents, but I also love giving presents too. There’s something really special about someone opening a present that they love from you.

What is the best Christmas present you ever received?

Now this is tricky, as I’ve received so many nice presents. I honestly can’t select a best Christmas present.

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I couldn’t imagine being on holiday for Christmas, and being away from home. However if I had the opportunity to be away for the holidays it would have to be skiing. I love skiing and it’s something that we’ve had to forgo since having our daughter, as she’s a little too young to ski. I think it would be really nice having Christmas in a log-cabin chalet on the slopes and having someone else cook for you.

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I am a pro present wrapper with my presents all being wrapped perfectly with Christmas string and bows. Last year I made gift tags too from old Christmas cards. I really need to start the Christmas wrapping soon.

Most memorable Christmas moment?

It would have to be opening the presents in our Christmas stockings with my brother and sister in secret at my Nana and Grampa’s house. Christmas is so special for children, and I remember being really excited and not able to sleep.

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I have no idea or I can’t remember. I think that someone at school must have told me. We are going to try to keep the secret of Santa for as long as possible from my daughter.

What makes the holidays special for you?

Spending time with family and friends. Enjoying good food and drink.

Thanks so much Wendy for nominating me for this tag. It really has put me in the Christmassy mood, so much so that I have a Christmas film on in the background as I write this post.

I nominate for this tag:

Kimberly at Media Mummy

Rachel at Rachel Bustin

Sarah at Mum and Mor

Suzanne at And Another 10 Things

Becky at Sparkly Mummy

Louise at Little Hearts, Big Love

Have a lovely Christmas and I’m looking forward to hearing how you spend the holidays. Once you’re finished the post tag another group of people to help spread the love of Christmas.

Claire x
