Gifts for a newborn baby
We’ve recently had a lot of babies born into our friendship group generating a lot of excitement, pictures being shared on What’s App, and the need to purchase a present for the newborn baby and parent’s. But what do you buy for a newborn? There are the obvious presents like sleep suits and clothes that the parent’s probably have loads of, and may not be fully appreciative of another pack of baby vests. Although don’t get me wrong I was grateful for all the beautiful gifts we received when our daughter was born. So without further ado, here is my slightly alternative list of gifts to buy for a newborn baby.
Dressing gown from My 1st Years
These dressing gowns are brilliant. They are super soft and snuggly, and any newborn baby will look really cute wearing one of these, especially wearing one that has the little mouse ears. They come in a range of colours, and can be personalised with the baby’s name too. We were bought one of these when our daughter was born and have also been known to purchase some for friends too.
Sock bouquet from baby blooms
I was lucky enough to receive one of these bouquets and I loved it. On opening the box I was greeted with what looked like a bouquet of flowers wrapped up in tissue paper. On closer inspection it was 6 pairs of socks held within the bouquet. What a fab present. The socks are of a really good quality and have lasted the test of time. Not only do Baby Blooms do sock bouquets, there are also bouquets hand tied with baby wear and soft toys. I really recommend the soft toy bunny, our daughter has been inseparable from hers since Day One.
Lulujo swaddle blanket
These gorgeous swaddle blankets make for an excellent present. They come in a range of colours and styles to suit any parent, and are super soft too, perfect for keeping your newborn snug. If you don’t want to use it as a swaddle blanket you can also use it as a large muslin or soft mat to lay your baby down on. I know that I could have done with these for our baby sensory classes last year when our daughter was tiny.
Lamaze toys
I love all the toys in the Lamaze range. There are so many different types and styles, and we used ours as a mobile accessory from our pram and then buggy for our daughter to play with on one of my thousands of walks. Our friends were also fans of all Lamaze toys, and I was a little envious of theirs. They are great for your child’s development, featuring a range of bright colours, textures and sounds.
Jellycat Toys
All the Jellycat toys are fantastic, and we are fortunate to have a few that we received when our daughter was born, on her birthday and at Christmas. They are really soft and stylish, and the range is huge from small to large soft toys. Our latest Jellycat toy was the reindeer, and I love its gold antlers, that also make for a pretty good teether too.
Personalised Wooden Blocks
These personalised wooden blocks from Not On The High Street make a great gift for a newborn, christening, birthday or Christmas present. We were bought three blocks when our daughter was born, one block with her name, another with her birth date, and another with her weight on. The blocks can also be purchased with shapes and pictures to suit any style. They look great in our daughter’s room, and are neutral to go with any room style or theme.
The Little Lavender Tree
My husband stumbled across The Little Lavender Tree online when we were recently browsing for a newborn baby gift. I have to say I’m impressed. They make such beautiful gifts for newborn babies, as well as a range of gifts, clothes and homeware too. I really like the hamper sets that contain a sleep suit, hat, soft toy and nappy cream, all put together in a snazzy metallic tin. One of my favourites is the changing of the guard hamper set, which is very apt for living in London.
So that’s my list of gifts for a newborn baby. I hope that it has helped you select a gift if you’re choosing a present. Don’t forget to buy something for the parent’s too. A bottle of prosecco or a box of chocolates would be really appreciated after having a baby.

I always do a pamper basket for mum, with a few essentials thrown in like teething powders and maybe a cute sleepsuit. But I focus on things like bath things for mum, a nice candle, creams etc… Just stuff to help make mum feel good (or just half human!) after having birthed a tiny person! I love these ideas though, and may well steal one or two in the future! x

Ahhh, some lovely suggestions and I agree that you must not forget mum! Cheese and bubbles for mum!

We had a blanket from My 1st Years, a handmade sock bouquet and Jelly Cat and Lamaze toys. All great gifts. We were really appreciative of clothes in bigger sizes to put away for when Baby Lighty was older! #fortheloveofBLOG

This is a great selection. My daughter loves her Jellycat bunny – she has about 10 of them but can easily identify ‘original’ bunny from a line up. I also noticed those little building blocks at a friends recently – she had received them for her baby and I thought they were beautiful. #fortheloveofBLOG

Both of my girls were bought dressing gowns from My First Years and I loved them but to be honest I think I used them once. Lamaze and Jellycat toys are still my favourite. They may have put grown the Lamaze but both of them have a Jellycat that comes everywhere with us.

Peachy and her Mommy
I love Lamaze toys too! When I was pregnant with Peachy, I went overboard shopping for tiny baby clothes. They’re just so darn cute. So when people wanted to buy clothes for the baby, I told them to buy bigger sizes. It worked out very well. I still got to add some outfits of my own choosing in each age range, but I had something to put Peachy in as she grew which gave me time to shop around. #fortheloveofBLOG

Lovely suggestions. A list like this really helps people who haven’t had kids yet too. Even if you’re slightly out of the newborn phase, you tend to forget what precious and adorable things are on the market now. #fortheloveofblog

We also loved Lamaze toys in our house, as well as Jellycat soft toys – they are super soft aren’t they? I love the idea of the sock bouquet too. I was given a nappy cake when I had my eldest and that was rather impressive too! #fortheloveofblog
