A little late thank you to the NHS on its 70th birthday
This week the NHS had its 70th birthday, which is definitely something to be celebrated. The NHS is an amazing organisation and one that we should be incredibly proud of. I’m lucky enough to say that my family and I haven’t had to use the NHS too many times in terms of hospital treatment, however they have supported me through two births, one small hernia operation, and countless doctors appointment. So on its 70th birthday, here’s a little late thank you to the NHS.
Thank you for safely delivering my daughter by emergency c-section 3 years ago. If it wasn’t for all the wonderful midwives and doctors, I’m not sure what would have happened.
Thank you for supporting me and helping me to breastfeed in hospital after her birth. Without your support and guidance I think I may have just given up.
Thank you for all the doctors appointments that myself and my daughter needed when she started nursery and I went back to work. We were both really ill with tonsillitis, conjunctivitis, and hand, foot and mouth for what seemed like months.
Thank you for quickly addressing my small umbilical hernia and arranging an out-patient operation in a matter of weeks.
Thank you to all the midwives who have supported and listened to me through both pregnancies, and who respected my decision to opt for an elective c-section with my second baby rather than push me for a VBAC.
Thank you to the full team of midwives, doctors, anaesthetists, and surgeons who delivered our gorgeous baby boy just over a month ago by elective c-section. I must say the entire experience was so much better, much calmer and more controlled than an emergency c-section.
Thank to the midwives who took the time to care for me after my son’s birth, and made sure that we were fit and well to go home less than 48 hours later.
Thank you for reassuring me that the strange growing lump on my foot was nothing sinister through a number of tests and scans, and I am pleased to say it has disappeared now.
Thank you to the health visiting team for the countless weigh-ins of my daughter, home visits, and continuing to track the progress of my daughter’s and son’s weight, and making sure that their immunisations are up to date.
Thank you for always being there. Although it is known to be hard to get doctors appointments at my surgery, I have never had trouble getting an appointment on the day and seeing a doctor.
Thank you for saving lives and doing what is probably one of the hardest jobs in the world. You are very much appreciated and valued.
Lastly a huge thank you to all the staff at Lewisham Hospital as part the Lewisham and Greenwich Hospital Trust who have supported my family and I through two births and one operation.
The NHS is a huge valuable and inspiring resource to anyone in the UK, so please keep doing what you’re doing, as I don’t know where we would be without it.
