How did I get on in 2018?

With Christmas and New Year swiftly approaching it’s the time of year when you start to reflect on what you’ve actually achieved and what you would love to be doing this time next year.

At the start of 2018 I wrote down a list of my quarterly goals (or more intentions which I prefer to call them) and now is the time to review these, tick of the list what I have done, review and refine, and probably move some into 2019.

2018 was a big year for me, and for us as a family. We welcomed our second child, we moved house, and life in general just became a little more hectic. My life today is very different from my life at the start of 2018, so let’s see how I got on.

January to March 2018

  • Complete the Digital Mums course and the “Do the Hustle” program. I’ll give this one a big fat tick! 
  • Continue to make enough money from the blog to pay for my daughter’s nursery fees per month. I’m making enough to cover those fees, be able to contribute to buying household essentials, and treat myself every now and again. 
  • Get my first social media client and begin working on their channels, and running their campaigns. I spent most of this time hustling for my first client. It’s amazing just how long this took after I completed the Digital Mums course, and it was much longer than I expected. Clients certainly don’t come knocking at your door, you really have to go out and find them. 
  • Other stuff – MOVED HOUSE

April to June 2018

  • Continue to work with that social media client, and seek to grow my business to two clients. During this quarter I started with my first social media client running her Facebook page, and this work came about during my hustling in the first quarter. 
  • Increase my income from the blog to £1,000.00 per month. My blogging income at the time was just shy of this figure. 
  • Begin to think about offering social media management to other bloggers, and set up a section on my blog to offer this. This is something I haven’t pursued in 2018. It is something I would like to do, but with family priorities it is something I have had to put on the backburner for now. 
  • Other stuff – Had my second child. 

July to September 2018

  • Continue to work with at least two clients running their social media. Through this quarter I only worked with my one client, but to be honest this was plenty as my hands were full looking after a newborn baby and toddler. 
  • Be working with at least two bloggers offering consultancy on their social media. I would love to do this in 2019, and maybe it is a free resource I offer to two lucky bloggers to begin with. 
  • Continue to grow the blog and ensure that it is providing an income stream whilst retaining its core parenting theme. During this time I was getting more and more opportunities come my way. I hit 10k on Twitter, and I felt that I was really upping my Instagram game. Opportunities such as working with bigger brands including Leesa and MyHummy

October to December 2018

  • Have retained at least two to three social media clients by the end of the year. As I write this post I now have two clients; my existing client I have worked with since April, and another client I do the social media for on behalf of another Digital Mum. It certainly helps to keeps talking and networking in the Digital Mums community as you never know what opportunities may arise. 
  • My social media consultancy is set up with it’s own website and branding ready for 2019. Done. Another big fat tick. I set this up as The Social Shed back in April before the little one arrived, and it is something I fully intend to move forward in to 2019 with greater impact. 
  • Continue to grow the blog and ensure that it provides a revenue stream. The blog is still ticking over nicely and is very much my focus. It has been tricky to keep updating on a daily basis as I was doing prior to having my second child. My social media work and getting sleep have had to take priority, and I do hope that in 2019 I can give it the time that it deserves. 
  • Other stuff – Dealing with a sleep regression and huge amounts of sleep deprivation. 

So that’s how I got on in 2018. Overall I have pretty much ticked off everything on this list, maybe not to the level I would have liked, but at least I did it. It certainly gives a lot of scope for 2019.
