10 Child Friendly Date Ideas in London
Being a parent it is super difficult to go on a date with your husband or partner. There is so little time, or you can only go out separately whilst the other one looks after your child. This is the case for us, and I’m sure many other parents. In fact I think I can count on one hand the amount of times that my husband and I have been out together without our daughter.
I’ve started to look at this in another way, and now that she’s a little older it is possible to go on a date, and bring our daughter along with us. That way we still have the date, but without the worry of someone looking after her. So here are 10 child friendly date ideas in London avoiding soft play and Peppa Pig.
Tate Modern
Having worked behind the Tate Modern for 10 years, I’ve been very few times. There is generally always something on in the Turbine Hall, and a featured artist on display. The Tate Modern is huge, so there is so much to see on your date, and your child can run around in the Turbine Hall. Also you can enjoy a really nice meal in the cafe or in the 10th floor restaurant with 360 degree views over London
Greenwich Park
If you’ve not been to Greenwich then you need to go. We used to live there, and loved it. It’s a lovely little part of London with a huge park that has fabulous views over London and Canary Wharf. The park is perfect for an afternoon or early evening stroll especially as the sun is setting. Plus there is so much space and a large play park for your child to run around in.
London Zoo
This is such a good place to bring out the big kid in you. I love looking at animals and seeing them close up, as it’s not something we see very often. There is so much to see at the zoo from lions, to gorillas, to monkeys. We recently had a fantastic day out at London Zoo together, and our daughter loved it too. There’s also a street food type area for food and drinks, so you can enjoy a relaxing beer together at the end of the day.
Sea Life Centre
Just like London Zoo, the Sea Life Centre is not just for kids. Adults love them too, as it’s fascinating seeing huge fish and sharks close up. Hopefully your child will be mesmerised by the lights and coloured fish, so you can have some adult time together without constantly trying to entertained children.
Theatre Matinee
Most of the shows running in London offer a matinee show, plus they tend to be slightly cheaper than the evening performances. So take advantage of this, and go on a date to a matinee performance with your child. Some of the child friendly shows are Lion King and Aladdin, but as adults we love them too.
Pedalo on the Serpentine at Hyde Park
This is a brilliant way to relax with your loved one and see the sights of Hype Park. The serpentine is huge so there’s plenty of exploring to do whilst on your pedalo, or just pedalo around the lake and chill out hopefully under a sun drenched sky. Hopefully your child will be fascinated by the ducks and other pedalo’s. Plus it’s free for the under 4s.
Thames Boat Trip
There are so many boat cruises that run up and down the Thames letting you enjoy and see all the sights of London, and some allow you to hop on and off. Most boat cruises include Westminster, Bankside, London Eye, Tower Bridge and Greenwich. If your child is anything like mine, they will just love being on a boat, whilst you take in the London skyline.
Orbit in the Olympic Park
The Olympic Park is a brilliant place to take children, but also for you to go on a wander. Head up the Orbit to take in the views of London and the Olympic Park where you can either take the stairs or the lift to the top. If you fancy being a big kid, you can take the world’s longest tunnel slide back down. And, if your child is over 8 years old then can join you on this slide too.
Street Feast
We love Street Feast, especially Hawker House at Canada Water. On Saturday it is open from midday, making it perfect to go on a date together, and bring your kids. There are so many street food vans here ranging from burgers, to thai, and to korean. Plus bars serving your favourite cocktails. Whilst you relax with your food and drink, your children can play on the trampolines and in the sandpits.
Eltham Palace
This is a stunning art deco house in South East London that is owned by Engligh Heritage. You are free to walk around the house taking in the eclectic styles of the rooms. Then once you’ve explored the house there are over 19 acres of gardens to explore, including a moat and a large rock garden. If your children need a break and to let off some steam, then there’s a play area for them to explore.
Not only are these places in London perfect for child friendly dating, they can all be enjoyed by anyone. All these date ideas are perfect for the over 50s dating and for single parent dating too. Have you been on date to any of these places in London, I would love to hear from you.

I lived in London for a decade and hadn’t heard of Eltham Palace, that sounds like a lovely day out. I can’t wait to take my little one to the zoo and aquarium.

Oooo might try Eltham Palace this weekend xx

What great ideas, maybe I should do one for my area since people always complain about doing the same date night every week. #fortheloveofBLOG
The Squirmy Popple
There are so many great things to do in London – I’m jealous! You’re right, it’s so hard to get in date time when you have a child. #fortheloveofBLOG

I’ve done a lot of these but will definitely have to add pedalos to my to do list next time I take L to London. Or maybe even if I’m on my own #fortheloveofBLOG

Let your light shine Mummy
Great, ideas, I’ve not been to London for a while but apart from the Tate Modern and London Zoo, both of which I visited a long time ago, Ive not been to the rest. The boys would love it i’m sure. xx fortheloveofBLOG
The Mum Reviews
Lovely ideas for a day out that includes the little one but is still fun for mum and dad. I think as my kids get a bit older I’m finding “family outings” a lot easier and more fun and am looking forward to doing more things like this in London as time goes on. It will be great when the 2yo stops randomly running away in bids for freedom. #fortheloveofBLOG

These are all brill, some of my favourite places are on this list! We too tend to combine ‘date days’ with the kids, and it can be really nice. Sometimes, tough, just sometimes, it’s even nicer to go out, leave them with Nana, and get a bit drunk and silly hahaha! #fortheloveofBLOG

Some great places here and I completely agree that date nights often have to be replaced with child-accompanied date days! I must take my daughter to the sealife centre soon. #fortheloveofBLOG
Tooting Mama
Great ideas, indeed. But for us dates nights are strictly sans enfants, our babysitter is on speed dial! #fortheloveofBLOG

Claire you have some of my favourite spots in town here – particularly Greenwich and Eltham Palace which are very close to me. The Tate is also a good option – so easy to wile away time there and there is always something to keep young ones entertained and it helps prepare them for gallery trips as they grow up! The South Bank is a also a favourite of mine. #fortheloveofBLOG

I have been to the Tate so many times and did not know it had a 10th floor restaurant with views! can’t believe I missed this fact. And I just love Greenwich – I read another post about it last week and it’s decided where I’m booking accomodation for our next London trip as I’d forgotten how much I love that little area. Great ideas here and it made me miss London even more! #fortheloveofBLOG
The Pramshed
Yep the 10th floor restaurant is new, it’s part of the extension completed earlier this year x

Thanks for your tips for when we visit London, as we are overdue a trip. We sometimes get my mum to have our bigger 2 and then go out for lunch and a wander with the little 2 as to us that is peaceful!

Mrs Mummy Harris
These are some really good ideas for dates! I love the zoo and we’re off to Paradise Wildlife Park on Wednesday for a family day out which I cannot wait too go to. Sometimes a family day out is better than a date as you don’t feel bad for leaving the little ones behind! #fortheloveofBLOG
MomOfTwoLittleGirls
That is such a great list. I also love the way you’re embracing dating with your daughter. It’s special.

I always shy away from London when it comes to kids activities….I guess it’s the public transport and the busyness of the streets etc. But I might just cahnge my mind now 😉
