The PAVARA sink tidy

Mums in Business featuring PAVARA

This week on my Mums in Business series I’m delighted to be featuring Sunita who created the PAVARA Sink Tidy after completing her house renovations and realising that she would love a gadget to hide the essential contents we keep at our sinks. In case your wondering what PAVARA stands for, it means Providing A Viable Aesthetic Result Anywhere.

This is a great business story where Sunita created the product from scratch, whilst learning loads along the way. Her advice is always to double everything when setting up your own business, and that’s the costs and timelines. If you’re inspired to find out more about Sunita and her business, then read on.

Tell me a little bit about you, your background and PAVARA?

I am a mum of 2 children now aged 12 and 15 years old, and when I first started the business they were 8 and 11 years old. By profession I am actually a Pharmacist. My journey began at the end of 2012 after coming back from volunteering for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games where I was part of the medical team caring for the athletes. This was a once in a lifetime role and I wanted to somehow recreate that excitement in my day job.

A few months passed, and I began preparing plans to renovate our house. It was whilst embarking on this project that led me to create a solution to a problem of having a messy kitchen sink area, and the Pavara sink tidy was born.

The Pavara sink tidy is designed to hide the contents such as washing up liquid, hand wash, sponge and a brush, that is easily rotated and made in a high gloss to match the minimalism that our kitchens strive to be today.

How do you balance the business around family and childcare?

I enjoy working on my project during school hours and sometimes in the evenings. This means that i can still be there for my children. Unfortunately as my project required a huge financial investment, I have had to continue working alongside developing my business. This has proved incredibly tricky, but as women we are adept at juggling many balls!

Since setting up the business what’s been your biggest success to date?

My biggest success was in fact embedding a charitable element into our core structure of the business. We are now a socially responsible enterprise and support Water Aid via the ‘Work for Good’ platform.

What’s your top tip for Mums who are thinking about setting up their own business?

My advice to anyone looking to set up their own business would be to have a clear idea of the costs involved, then double it!
The same applies to time spans. There are always hiccups and when you have to balance your own family along with finances, this can prove quite challenging.

You can find out more about PAVARA by visiting the website, or their Twitter, Facebook and Instagram channels.

Thank you so much Sunita for taking part in my series, it was lovely to interview you, and I wish you the best of luck in the future.
