Advancing Your Career When You’ve Simply Got No Time!

Having a career is something most people want from life. It’s an ambition that keeps us getting up in the morning, either to learn or work our way to the top, and then stay there with plenty of experience and know-how on your side. And hey, the money involved isn’t too shabby either! But when you’ve got more than just you to look after, this is going to be hard to keep up with especially if you’re a parent.

Can you do it? Let’s take a couple of minutes right now, whilst you’ve got the living room or your bedroom to yourself, and have a think about how you can get your career back on track when it feels like you’ve got absolutely no time to do so!

Time Does Not Equal Productivity

Remember that and you’ll feel a lot better about your chances! If you clock into your job at 8am in the morning, and clock out again at 8pm in the evening, because you feel it’s the only way to make sure you’ll get things done, you’re only going to be properly productive for about a third of that time which is just a little bit wasteful.

So make sure you’re never spreading yourself too thin over a day. Only take on two or three hours of work at a time; this way you’re guaranteed to avoid burnout, and to actually focus on your priorities, rather than be consumed by the mindset of trying to get everything done at once!

Use the Internet

It’s right there in front of you, either on your laptop or your phone, so why not put it to good use? You’ve got a social media presence and a blog to update every now and then, and you’re comfortable with the exposure that gives you to the rest of the world, but why not take it a step further? There’s so many resources online, you’re never going to be out of a chance to find a course or a video series that can teach you some tips and tricks, or give you some real experience, for the career move you want to make.

There’s even an mba with engineering focus program out there, so it’s clear that hefty careers we consider to have serious consequences if we do something wrong can be learned about here! And you can even end up with a bona fide degree afterwards. Learning online is one of the easiest ways to get ahead, and more people should look into this option to save some time. However there’s only 24 hours in a day after all, and you may need to eat into some time that you would normally spend sleeping to study, but remember that this is only for a short period of time.

Being a working mum is hard, especially when you’ve got a newborn on your hands (like me). But it’s not an impossible feat to accomplish, thanks to the world of technology and all of its accessibility!

Are you a working parent who is motoring forward in your career, I would love to hear how are doing it?
