The 2 Types Of SEO All Bloggers Need To Know About

For those that don’t know, SEO refers to search engine optimisation. A fancy title, yes, but it’s all about learning how to make your website achieve the best possible search rankings. You see, every search engine has its own algorithm that determines the results you see whenever you run a search. It’s not just a random list, people don’t pay Google to be the first organic result – it’s all down to a series of factors that search engines regard highly.

If your blog ticks off all the main ranking factors, it will be high on the search result pages. This is very important as 28.5% of people click the first search result on Google. The lower down the page you go, the fewer clicks a site will get. So, if you want to grow your blog and get as many people on it as possible, you need to focus on SEO.

What is there to focus on? The list of possible and confirmed ranking factors is too long to go through in a short blog post! Instead, let’s focus on something a lot of bloggers don’t realise exists; two different types of SEO.

On-Page SEO

The first type is perhaps the type most people think about. Indeed, if you run a blog and look to improve your SEO, most of your work will be done by looking at on-page SEO. This is simply because it contains some of the most obvious things to do. For example, improving the speed of your loading pages. This boosts SEO as it provides a better experience for the users. Speaking of which, anything relating to the UX will improve your SEO, and most of this takes place on your pages.

Think about things like your site structure, menus, content, and so on. Keywords form an integral part of search engine optimisation, and your blog is where you need to put them. In essence, you need to think about all the internal things that can improve the way your blog ranks in search engines. Honestly, the best way to do this is to focus on the user experience, most things that improve this will improve your SEO.

Off-Page SEO

Secondly, you have everything that impacts your search ranking without it being on your website. Off-page SEO looks at external ranking factors, such as link building. Link building is where other blogs and sites link to your website. Search engines see this as an indication that you’re authoritative and trustworthy, which is exactly the type of site they want to show people. Therefore, you get lifted up the rankings.

Other elements of off-page SEO can include things like listing a website in a directory. It’s perhaps not relevant for blogs, but it works for business websites.

In conclusion, bloggers need to focus on both on-page and off-page SEO if they want to succeed. Getting your site on the first page of search results is a huge step and you will benefit from it. A better search engine performance almost always leads to more growth.
